This is Costessey

I spent two weeks in January 2022 working with some truly inspiring young people from Ormiston Victory Academy in Norwich.

We created a portrait of the area in which they live and go to school together, as part of Norfolk and Norwich Festival.

Joyous times. Bringing the videography, devising and choreography all together.

Music: Benji Bower

Additional direction: Phil Ormerod

to bend & not break trailer

‘to bend and not break’ is a dance film I choreographed and filmed, in collaboration with members of the Interdisciplinary dance performance MA at Northern School of Contemporary Dance.

A ritual of release, a journey from sorrow and hopelessness to community and congregation. Using dance as an excavation, 'to bend & not break' flows between states of grief and joy to celebrate the role of dance as a communal healing force.

Becoming Gertrude

A little thing I put together charting the course from rehearsals to performance.

The one and only Roseanna Anderson of Impermanence Dance Theatre and her solo incorporating Gertrude Stein’s poem ‘If I Told Him, A Completed Portrait of Picasso’.

Part of a wonderful day at The Mount Without, experimenting and playing with performance and film. Led by the brilliant Nick Young and his new company MUTI.

Fenland Elegy

A short and stirring dance film shot at sunset in the Fens of East Anglia, Fenland Elegy is a collaboration between filmmaker Dan Canham, Krump dancers Katie Boag and Ash Goosey and composer Benji Bower (Terra Collective).

The film combines heart-rending symphonic music with the immense technical and expressive form of Krump dance to lament the passing of a landscape.

Made as part of a residency through Norfolk & Norwich Festival.
